Social Comparisons
This past week in one of my other classes we watched this video from Elder Stevenson speaking at BYU Women's Conference in 2017. I have never seen the clip before but I thought it went along perfectly with our social media lecture in class.
I also loved this clip because it shows that apostles, and their families are imperfect. I think sometimes we have this mindset that the prophets and apostles and their families are perfect mormon families where nothing ever goes wrong.
I admire Elder Stevenson's vulnerability in admitting he totally forgot about his family pictures that day and how his wife was really mad at him. I like when apostles share these somewhat embarrassing moments that can help us relate to them.
I also admire when people post vulnerable things on social media. I feel like vulnerability is important especially on a platform like Instagram where everyone likes to make it seem like their life is flawless.
Elder Steven's family photo story begins at 3:35 if you want to watch and skip forward to that part!
However, the whole video is really good!
This is the video!

Thanks for sharing this! It's SO true. Sometimes I forget that the prophet and apostles are human too and make mistakes. I love when they are vulnerable and let us see that even they need repentance and forgiveness too. And I agree about social media. When people share vulnerable things it makes me respect them even more because they're willing to be themselves and be open about what they're facing!
ReplyDeleteAsh you're the best! Thanks for sharing the video about his talk, I haven't seen that yet. xoxox
