The How of Happiness
I am currently taking a positive psychology class and we are reading the book "The How of Happiness" by Sonja Lyubomirisky. It is fascinating! I have loved reading about how much of our attitude is in our control. The book is structured in a way where each chapter gives you an idea of how to improve your happiness. I just read the chapter on forgiveness which was really inspiring to me. I never thought about how forgiveness could improve your mental health but as I read I thought about times where I have forgiven people and it has helped me to lift those feelings of resentment or hate. I thought about how hard it is to forgive those who severely wronged you. I thought about how we have to truly call upon our Heavenly Father in order to forgive. I have loved reading this book and it has helped me to become more mindful in my everyday routine and to be more active in improving my mental health.

I took a mental health class and the professor made a really good point. He said not forgiving someone really only hurts you. The person you won't forgive most likely has moved on and is living his/her daily life while you're sitting there mad/sad/upset because you're unable to forgive.
ReplyDeleteI will always remember that. Forgiveness is so hard but so necessary for one's own mental health.
I love this! I love listening to TED talks and inspirational talks and quotes about positive and happiness. I am definite going to read this book! a lot more goes into our happiness than we may think.
